Magic System Updates
Posted on 08/14/2006 02:58 PM CDT by the Webstaff
In the past two weeks, several major changes have occurred in the core magic system of DragonRealms.  Most of these are fixes of long-standing bugs, and may impact game play.  As a result, all casters are advised to review the Gamemaster Announcements in the DragonRealms forums for more information.  A summary of these changes is included below.

* Anything that increases your Primary Magic skill should now generally be beneficial.  Previously it could very easily have reduced casting efficiency.  Things that can increase your PM skill include but are not limited to spell or ability based bonuses, fully preparing a spell, or using harnessed mana to power the spell.

* Anything that decreases your Primary Magic skill should now generally be undesirable.  Previously penalties to PM could actually increase your effectiveness.  Things that can decrease your PM skill include but are not limited to spell or ability based debuffs, casting a spell before it is fully prepared, or injuries.

* Using HARNESS SHARE to share mana among groupmates should now always result in increased power being available to the caster.  Previously using shared mana almost always resulted in power loss.

* Core magic now correctly recognizes environmental settings.  Spells that are restricted or act differently in certain environments will now work as intended.

* A bug that was preventing Bards from gaining experience from the use of cambrinth items has been fixed.  In addition, Bards now have the option of using FOCUS {cambrinth} {amount} to set their cambrinth items to drain the specified amount per pulse.  This amount is capped based on the Magical Devices skill of the Bard.
