FEATURED SITE REQUIREMENTS

Featured Site Requirements

The Simutronics fansite database maintains a list of all sites that are eligible for Featured Site status and rotates through different ones each day. In order to be eligible for "Featured Site" status, a site must, at a minimum:

Common reasons that sites may still be listed in the fansite database, but *not* be eligible for featured status, include (but are not limited to):

  • Not having a screenshot
  • Misspelling the name of one of the games. (For example, "GemStone III" should be spelled with a capital "S" and a roman numeral "III". Spelling it in other ways on a site, such as "gemstone3", could make the site ineligible for "featured" status)
  • Having an excessive amount of other typos or errors
  • Coding errors such as javascript errors for different browser types
  • An excessive amount of "popup" ads for other services
  • Broken links and/or excessive "coming soon" pages
  • An extremely limited amount of information (such as just a "one-page" diary site).

Note: Being listed in the "featured site" rotation is a privilege, not a right. And, even if in the rotation, a site may only be listed once every several weeks if there are many other sites that are also in the rotation.

If you believe that your site should be listed in the rotation but has not shown up for at least a month, first review the above list and ensure that your site does not have any of the most common errors. Next, review your account's "Links Management" page to see if there are any notes from the web monitors about requested changes. You may also wish to submit an update to your link, and include a question in the "notes" field that you are trying to have your site listed in the "Featured Site" rotation, so you'd like feedback from the web monitors as to what other things you might be able to do to improve your site, or to alert you if there's some other problem (such as a javascript error) that you might not be aware of.

Or for any other questions about the fansite database system, please write to fansites@play.net.
