THE QUEST
THE LOOT
TEAMS AND SCORING

The Quest

Lord and Lady Tallary need your help! They seek to hold an exciting competition for uncovering the rich histories of the items the Turamzzyrian Academy of Elanthian History possesses. From those who wish to help, teams of no more than nine will be created, either by building robust teams or allowing assignment to a team. Individual efforts are also allowed, but may find they have a tougher time solving some puzzles.

The Turamzzyrian Academy of Elanthian History has long stood as the cornerstone of archeological history and preservation in the western lands. An assemblage of some of the finest historians, their commitment to the continued research of artifacts has provided many museums with enormous collections.

Under the patronage of Lord and Lady Tallary, the Academy acquired a large number of items to which they can find neither distinct record nor apparent relationship. After many tedious hours of research, some of the historians have been able to deduce the origins of some of their items, but not their specific historical relevance. Unfortunately, many of the archeological locations the artifacts reference are so dangerous that not a single Academy member is willing to venture forth for more information. It is the hope of the Lord and Lady Tallery that brave adventurers will come to their aid to determine the historical significance of their collection.

The artifacts will be on display at Lord and Lady Tallary's lovely academy for participants to view. Their expert curators will be on hand to give what information is known about the artifact to get the adventurers started on their ways. Teams will then comb the four corners of the lands to unravel the mystery behind the items.

Each challenge has been carefully designed to allow multiple teams to participate simultaneously without infringing on other teams' enjoyment and experience.

Lord and Lady Tallary will award teams points upon successful completion of an artifact's challenge. Points awarded will vary depending on factors such as the complexity of puzzles, and whether the puzzle has been previously solved. (The quest includes fifteen new and fifteen old puzzles.)

Points are awarded for team accomplishments, so if a team with one member discovers just as much history as a team with nine members, all individuals receive the same amount of points. In this regard, it is within everyone's best interest to get a full team together. However, even if your team wasn't able to uncover any artifact's history, you still get some points just for participating!

Adventurers will then board the majestic Foehn's Promise, where there will be an amazing selection of food, fantastic entertainment, glorious gambling and over two hundred great prizes to spend hard-earned tokens on.

Teams and Scoring

Teams
Teams will not be auto-assigned. Each individual must sign up for a team, or create their own. This will be done through a registration process and can be handled at any time during the event. Players will also have the ability to leave a team, and join another, though there will be penalties for doing so.

Team Registration
Teams are formed in a registration room. There will be numerous registration rooms available in the academy to allow for swift and speedy creation of teams. Each registration room will be equipped with a Team Roster Sign, a Helpful Assistant, the Registration Book, and the Team Captain List.

Team Roster Sign - this sign displays all the current teams, the number of members, the team score, the joining status, and each team color.

A Helpful Assistant - the assistant provides useful information on using the team systems. Ask him about TEAMS, CAPTAINS, REGISTRATION, SCORES, JOINING and LEAVING teams, ROSTERS, and OPEN and CLOSED teams.

The Registration Book - This is where you sign up to be on a team. First READ the book. TURN the book to the right page so it displays the team you want to join. Then SIGN the book. Don't worry, you will be asked to confirm this by the assistant.

The Team Captain List - This is a list of all team captains and their team color. If you want to form your own team you can SIGN this list. ONCE YOU ARE A TEAM CAPTAIN, YOU CANNOT LEAVE THE TEAM. You will be asked to confirm this action by the Assistant.

To Join A Team
Simply turn the Registration Book to the proper page and SIGN it. If the team is designated OPEN by the Team Captain, you will be able to join it immediately. If the team is designated CLOSED by the Team Captain, you will need them to be present to confirm your addition to the team.

Opening and Closing Your Team
Team Captains can open or close their team. This is done by TAPping the Team Roster Sign.

Leaving a Team
If you are NOT the Team Captain, you have the ability to abandon your team. Just go to a registration area and LEAVE TEAM. Your Team Captain will need to be present in order to confirm this action. ANY POINTS THAT YOU ACCUMULATED ON THAT TEAM WILL BE FORFIETED. This will affect your personal points as well as team points and overall team scores. THERE IS NO WAY TO RECOUP POINTS FORFIETED OR PUZZLES PREVIOUSLY SOLVED. So, basically if you want to switch teams, it is going to hurt, and you will not be able to reach the maximum score possible. We don't recommend it, as you will lose your points and not be able to gain them back (even if you solve the same puzzles again), but you do have the option of leaving one team and joining another (or starting your own).

Solving Puzzles
In a change from the first Hunt for History event, only one team will be allowed in a puzzle area at a time. Don't worry, there are multiple copies of each puzzle so up to 3 teams can work on a puzzle at the same time. This is to prevent "solution stealing" which occurred last year and was problematic to the overall enjoyment of the event.

Points and Scoring
We took quite a bit of feedback from the previous Hunt for History event specifically in the areas of scoring. There are no longer any bonus points awarded for being the first person to solve a puzzle. This puts everyone on a level playing field for the entire event, no matter what times they normally play. Each player gains the same amount of points for solving each puzzle. In order for your team to gain the highest score possible, each member of your team will need to solve each puzzle.

Points
There are two types of points, Personal Points and Team Points. When you solve a puzzle, you are awarded personal points. Personal Points are also added to your overall team points which determines your Team Score.

Team Scores
In order to keep an overall team scoring system fair, it is necessary to have a relative overall team score. This means that your team score will be dependant on the number of players on your team. A team with more players will build up their Team Score more slowly than a team with fewer players. There is an advantage to both, as if you have only 1 member on your team, only one person has to solve each puzzle to gain the maximum team score. If you have 9 members on your team, each member must solve the puzzle to gain the maximum score. Of course, larger teams may have a slight advantage, since complex puzzles may require multiple players from different classes and races to solve.

Prizes
Players will be able to spend the credits they accumulate through the event. Credits will be based upon your overall Team Score, plus Personal Points. This means that the better your team scores, and the more puzzles you solve as an individual, the more you will be able to buy on the merchant ship.

The Final Word
All teams are balanced no matter how many members. Each player can gain the maximum number of credits for the merchant-ship at the end of the event. IN ORDER TO GAIN THE MAXIMUM SCORE, EACH MEMBER OF YOUR TEAM MUST SOLVE EACH AND EVERY PUZZLE.
