The world of Elanthia is for the most part wild, untamed and dangerous.
For this reason, citizens of Elanthia rarely adventure without the
protection of armor. However, there is a time and a place for everything,
including dress. Elanthian citizens become involved in many situations
where armor may not be appropriate: celebrations, social engagements,
or a chat over a beer at the pub. But the gods have an odd sense
of humor, and these casual gatherings are often interrupted by fearsome
foes who haven't the common decency to wait until after the party
to attack. The nerve!
Some particularly brave (insane) magic users also prefer to risk
combat without armor. Their choice provides them greater flexibility
of movement as well as no penalties to magical casting.
