Simutronics to Launch Four More Online Games
Titles Link the Three Largest Online Services
Rockville, MD (September 17, 1996) - The no. 1 company in online games
increases its market lead with four additional titles, including the first multiplayer
game linking all of the three biggest online services.
With the early October launch of GemStone IV on CompuServe, customers on America
Online, Prodigy, CompuServe and Genie will interact together in a fantasy role-playing
universe. This title, the most popular in the online world, already sees hundreds
of thousands of players each month, generating well over $15 million in annual
revenue for the online services.
Says Simutronics executive vice president Neil Harris, "The CompuServe
audience will push total paid usage of this game over 500,000 hours per month."
Online content areas are considered very successful if they achieve 100,000
paid hours in a month.
In addition to bringing GemStone IV to CompuServe, Simutronics is opening
its new GemStone IV spin-off title, DragonRealms, to the Prodigy service, joining
customers from America Online and Genie.
And America Online users will see two new titles. CyberStrike is in the final
stages of testing there in its new Windows SVGA version and ArchMage: War of
the Wizards, a new fantasy action game, will ship as the companys first
CD ROM online game. Both games feature highly competitive, graphical environments
and fast action.
"During the year, the company has made great strides," says company
President David Whatley. "Our role-playing games are on all the biggest
online services. Our 3D action titles are shipping on schedule and performing
to spec. Were thriving because the customers love our games. Were
the only company thats actually delivering titles that work and succeed."
