CyberStrike 2 Explodes onto the Internet
Simutronics 3D Action Game Now Available on the Web
Rockville, MD (December 14, 1998) The Internet debut of CyberStrike
2, a fast-paced 3D action game, was announced today by Simutronics (http://simutronics.com),
the leader in multiplayer online games.
"In CyberStrike 2, we have created a unique blend of action and simulation
gaming experiences," explains David Whatley, president and CEO of Simutronics.
"CyberStrike 2 has the depth of a fine mechanized combat simulation like
MechWarrior 2, but with the fluid and dynamic battles of the Wing Commander
series."
Players can play in special "shareware" arenas for free, simply by
downloading software or by purchasing the retail version of CyberStrike 2. The
shareware arenas give players a small sampling of weapons and power-up modules,
but provide unlimited time to try out the game. Players may also upgrade to
the full, subscription-based version of the online game for $9.95 per month,
and gain access to all modules, tournaments, arenas, and other features.
Designed from the ground up for online play, CyberStrike 2 solves many of the
issues facing Internet action games. The game was engineered to minimize the
effects of latency, that annoying lag between taking an action and seeing it
occur on the screen. Most players will not notice any lag when playing this
game. Another issue in Internet gaming is cheating by the players, which is
addressed in CyberStrike 2 by using servers and human "cyberops" who
can monitor play and deal with attempts to cheat the system.
The game features breathtaking graphics and incredibly fast action in 3D environments.
CyberStrike 2 represents a new breed of online game with around-the-clock human
moderators, countless combat arenas, sixty weapons modules, and multiple rule
sets for the ultimate in replayability. With 32 players per arena and support
for thousands of players game-wide, CyberStrike 2 offers an extensive clan and
ranking system that translates into an immersive and competitive atmosphere.
"Weve always taken the community aspect of our games very seriously
and we intend to set a new standard with the release of CyberStrike 2,"
states John Donham, producer of CyberStrike 2. "The beauty of an online
game, like CyberStrike 2, is the ability to implement customer requests and
rule changes on the fly. Subscribers to CyberStrike 2 can expect to find something
new each time they log on."
CyberStrike 2 has already received critical acclaim for the games unbelievable
3D graphics. Lauded as having "graphics to die for" by ZDNet, CyberStrike
2 has been honored with a four-star rating and their Editors Pick Award.
Greg Black of ActionXtreme calls CyberStrike 2 "an astonishing graphical
action-strategy game." With over a dozen lush and unique environments,
ranging from the deep jungle to the futuristic cityscape, CyberStrike 2 allows
players to seamlessly transition from indoor to outdoor environments.
To celebrate the launch of CyberStrike 2, Simutronics is hosting a Launch Party
and Sweepstakes that will culminate in mid-January with the presentation of
a fully-loaded Falcon Mach V gaming computer system (value $3,500) to the grand
prize winner. Other
prizes include Diamond Fusion 3D graphic accelerators, Microsoft Sidewinder
Precision Pro joysticks and CyberStrikeÒ 2 merchandise. Anyone who downloads
or plays CyberStrike 2 online by January 18, 1998 will automatically be entered
in the contest. Simutronics is also running numerous special events, such as
Girls Night Out, chats with the development team, and specialized tournaments
and contests to kick-off the launch.
The Internet version of CyberStrike 2 is available from a variety of venues.
First, owners of the retail version of the game, published by 989 Studios, will
have one-button access to the online game. Additionally, an online only version
(about 7MB) will give players either unlimited free play in four shareware arenas
or full access to CyberStrike 2 for only $9.95 per month. The online only version
can be downloaded from http://www.cyberstrike2.net.
