About Simutronics
Company History
Simutronics Corp is a leader in the business of massively
multiplayer games, focusing on persistent worlds using a subscription-based
model. Incorporated in Virginia, Simutronics has offices in the St.
Louis, Missouri and Washington, DC areas with more than 300 employees
and contractors around the world. The company is privately held.
Simutronics is one of the pioneering companies
in this dynamic field. Founded in 1987, the company has seen
more than a million paying players through the Web, Microsoft's
MSN Gaming Zone, Prodigy, CompuServe, America Online, and
GEnie. Development partners over the years include most of
the leaders in the online, media, and computer game industry
including Universal Studios, Sony, Viacom, Time Warner, and
Microprose.
We are proud of the many awards and accolades
given to us which include the AOL Members Choice Award, Computer
Gaming World's "Online Game of the Year", multiple
Fast 50 awards in the Washington DC technology community,
and the Blue Chip Technology Award. The company also made the
1999 Inc 500 list of fastest growing private companies.
play.net Technologies and
Games
The Simutronics web site at www.play.net is
developed entirely in-house using core technologies developed
by the company that include billing, message
boards, customer service and
marketing tracking systems. Most of our IFE products are
playable both via a world wide web browser and client-side programs.
Our current projects are Hero's Journey,
a 3D massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG),
and HeroEngine,
our Massively Multiplayer Online development solution. HeroEngine
has been licensed by game companies seeking to make AAA titles and Hero's
Journey is highly anticipated by the online gaming community.
The company's flagship products are its fantasy role-playing
titles, which dominate the market for MUD-style games. Based
on Simutronics' proprietary Interactive Fiction Engine (IFE),
these games support a dynamic, ever-changing game world where
each player has an impact on the world and where an incredibly
talented staff of GameMasters add new features daily. The
games are positioned in the high end of the market, where
players are seeking an advanced, robust role-playing experience,
and are designed for years of play value.
GemStone IV is enormously popular and
attracts hundreds of thousands of players from around the
globe. Its enthusiastic players form a huge online community
with dozens of websites and
player
gatherings across the U.S. yearly, including the official
SimuCon convention which takes place
in the St. Louis area each year.
Other IFE-based products are DragonRealms,
a spinoff from GemStone IV, Alliance
of Heroes, a fantasy roleplaying game set in the Golden
Age of mythology, and Modus
Operandi,
an interactive mystery game set in a modern Caribbean island.
Each of these also has its own community of fan websites.
For
fast-action fun, we offer CyberStrike 2,
a futuristic robotic combat game featuring state of
the art 3D graphics, animation and intense combat action.
