Normally, when you perform ritual magic, the spell must be
cast within a very short time following the ritual. However,
you can store the magical energy for later use. To do this,
you must prepare a holy relic, and have it at hand when you
complete the ritual.
You can purchase or find relics that have been created for
the purpose of holding ritual magic. You can purchase them
at one of the Priest's Shops in Athens, or you may be able
to find them as treasure. Make sure to get a relic that has
not been used for some other purpose. It just wouldn't do
to try to rededicate a relic to Zeus after it has been dedicated
to Hera, for example. Such an attempt could be deadly, or
at least unhealthy. IDENTIFY the object before you
attempt to use it.
You must prepare the object before you can use it as a holy
relic. This is done through the use of Ritual Magic, specifically
from the realm of Magical Alteration. The first ritual from
that realm is 3001 Mystic Weave. That ritual allows you to
prepare an object as a holy relic.
Return to the temple before attempting the ritual. As with
any other ritual, you must first PERFORM it to start
the process. Then complete the steps of the ritual. Then PRAY.
Lastly CAST the spell. For example, to complete ritual
3001 Mystic Weave on a sword symbol, you would go to the temple,
hold the symbol in one hand, and:
PERFORM 3001
BLESS SWORD SYMBOL
PRAY
CAST SWORD SYMBOL
If the ritual is successful, you would then have a holy relic
in the form of a sword symbol that is ready to store other
spells for you.
To actually store a spell in the symbol, you would perform
the ritual for the spell as usual, then cast the spell at
the sword symbol. For example, to store the spell from ritual
1001 Spirit Trainer, you would hold the prepared sword symbol
in one hand, and do the following:
PERFORM 1001
CHANT ZEUS (use the name of your deity here)
PRAY
CAST SWORD SYMBOL
You can store only a limited number of spells in an object,
and you can only store multiple instances of the same spell.
You can't mix spells in one item.
To get the spell out of the item later, when you need to
use it, use the INVOKE command. For example, INVOKE
SWORD SYMBOL. This will make you ready to cast the spell
again.
If you forget what spells are in what items, you will have
to IDENTIFY the item. However, you may not have enough
skill to identify items that you created. You may need to
get a higher level Storyteller to identify the item.
