Stats, Attributes, and Wealth Getting
information about your character. |
It is important to be able to get information about your character.
This includes information about what he or she is carrying, the
status of your character's health, how much skill your character
has, etc. Since these informational commands are usually not verbs
that tell your character to do something, they can be hard to figure
out, so we will list them here for you.
EXPERIENCE
This verb is usually abbreviated as EXP. It will show you
information about how many experience points you currently have,
and how many you need to advance to the next level. It will also
tell you what level you are and how many training points you have.
Training points are points that you spend with trainers around Athens
who will teach you different skills. You earn these points when
you level.
You'll also get a message about your state of mind. This is known
as your experience pool. When you gain experience, it goes into
a pool that slowly empties over time. Think of it as a funnel. You
can pour a lot of water into it, but only so much will come out
of the other end, so it will take time to get the full funnel of
water emptied. When that pool is empty, it means you have no experience
in your head and are not learning. When it is full, that means that
your funnel runneth over and any experience you earn is just sloshing
over the sides. When this happens, you need to wait until there's
room to get anymore experience that will count.
IMPUDENCE
This verb is usually abbreviated as IMP. It will tell you
the current status of your Impudence rating. Your impudence rating
is how well or how poorly the gods and goddesses look upon you.
When you do things that the gods and goddesses don't like, your
Impudence will rise. If it gets high enough, it can have a big impact
on a lot of things in the game.
This stat is especially important to priests who will find their
impudence rises for calling upon the gods to perform magic. More
information on this can be found in the professions
section of the documentation.
INFORMATION
This verb is usually abbreviated as INFO. It will give
you information about your character's name, race, profession, alignment,
and the current values of your basic stats. This will also show
you your experience pool (explained above) and your fame pool.
The fame pool is a very abstract thing and works almost opposite
of your experience pool. It's good for your experience pool to be
full. It's bad for your fame pool to be full. When you earn fame
for your heroic (or not so heroic) deeds, it is placed in a pool
and lies dormant until you have your praises sung to the masses.
This can be done by having a storyteller perform a fame song about
you (more info in the profession
section) or by visiting a storyteller shop where the owner may or
may not write songs themselves and asking them to sing you one.
Unlike the experience pool, your fame pool has no limit of how
full it can be. But if your fame pool gets beyond a certain level,
then the fame begins to leak out, never to be seen again. This is
what the message in INFO tells us, when our fame pool has
reached the point of leaking. When you have the song performed in
your honor, your fame pool will be emptied and the fame will go
into your permanent fame stat.
INVENTORY
This verb is usually abbreviated as INV. It will list all
of the items you are carrying and wearing. Note, INV will
not list the items that are inside of containers you are wearing.
For example, if you are wearing a knapsack, it will list the knapsack
but not the contents. To see what is in the knapsack, you would
have to LOOK IN KNAPSACK.
HEALTH
This verb will tell you the current status of your health. If you
are hurt, you can rest and you will heal over time or you can use
one of the many aids such as elixirs, spells, or songs to help it
along. If your health goes too low though, you'll be dead and no
amount of healing will help. Then it's time for a trek through the
underworld.
SKILLS
This verb will give you information about the skills your character
knows. See the skills section of
the documentation for more information on
each skill and what it does.
WEALTH
This verb will tell you how many Dinars you are carrying, and it
will remind you if you have any outstanding debts. Dinars are the
currency we use in Athens and around the world. To pay debts you
need to go to the debt office (DIR DEBT) and PAY
the AMOUNT you owe. When you begin the game you will begin
with a debt.
Not so Obvious Verbs with
Information
Some verbs we use to do certain things within our profession will
also double as informative verbs on how to do those things. Here
are a few examples, this list likely isn't complete and is just
here as an example of what to look for.
An example of this sort of verb would be PERFORM. Typing
PERFORM LIST will give priests a list of the rituals they
can perform. CREATE is another verb that is used for setting
traps, but CREATE LIST will tell you what traps you know
how to make. FORMULA will give alchemists a list of concoctions
they can make, how to make them, and what to make them with. WRITE
LIST will tell storytellers what songs they know how to write.
You can find more specific information on things like those listed
above in the professions
section of the documentation.
